Support is separate (22% of licence cost, per year, from purchase date) and we quote it alongside or skip it on your call.

How Oracle licensing works

Processor or Named User Plus.

Two familiar metrics. Very different counting logic. The deployment decides which comparison is useful.

01 / PROC

Processor licence

Buy by processor when user counts are high, variable or hard to count: web apps, customer-facing systems, internet-exposed services. Quantity follows Oracle's core factor table, applied to every physical core in scope. Virtualisation rules can change the count, so confirm the deployment before you commit.

02 / NUP

Named User Plus licence

Buy by user when every person and device accessing the database is countable, typically internal line-of-business systems. Oracle enforces a minimum number of Named Users Plus per processor for Enterprise Edition, so check the threshold before sizing the order. We'll model both options on the quote.

    Can I defer Oracle support?

    No. Oracle Software Update License and Support must start from the purchase date. You can choose not to renew, but you can't pause and resume.

    Is SE2 enough for my workload?

    SE2 covers most departmental databases up to 16 CPU threads. If you need partitioning, parallel query, or RAC at scale, you need Enterprise Edition — ask and we'll quote that too.

    What if my server has more than 2 sockets?

    SE2 has a hard 2-socket-per-server limit. If your server has more, you need Enterprise Edition or a smaller server. We'll help spec a compliant deployment.

    Processor or Named User Plus — which should I compare?

    Processor licensing usually suits broad, variable access that is hard to count. Named User Plus can suit controlled environments where every user and device is known. Product-specific minimums still apply, so we compare both against the deployment before quoting.

    What do you need to build an Oracle quote?

    Send the Oracle product and edition, deployment hosts, processor and core details, virtualisation boundary, user or device population, and current support or entitlement position. We will confirm what else is needed before treating the quantity as final.
