Oracle software licensing

The licence metric matters. We make it visible.

Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 perpetual licences and the Java SE Universal Subscription — supplied to UK IT brokers and MSPs. SE2 is licensed per occupied processor socket with a 2-socket-per-server hard limit; Java SE is now an employee-based subscription (priced across all employees, not just Java users). Support is separate (22% of licence cost, per year, from purchase date) and we quote it alongside or skip it on your call.

Before we quote

A SKU is only the start.Metric and deployment matter.

Oracle licensing changes with the product, metric, deployment and any support or renewal details. We check each one before finalising the quote.

  1. 01

    Oracle Database SE2 perpetual licences

  2. 02

    Java SE Universal Subscription (employee-based)

  3. 03

Per-socket licensing — 2 sockets per server max for SE2

  4. 04

Support quoted as a separate line item

Oracle metric guide

Start with the deployment. Then compare the metric.

The right metric depends on how the software is deployed and accessed. It is not always the simplest-looking line item.

Your quote lists the programme, metric, quantity and any support or entitlement details.

Processor

When access is broad or difficult to count.

Processor licensing is the usual comparison point for internet-facing, customer-facing or highly distributed access. The physical and virtual deployment boundary still needs review.

Details to check

  • Processor and core scope
  • Core-factor review
  • Virtualisation boundary

What an Oracle quote needs

Product. Deployment.Metric. Support.

Your quote should show the product, licence metric, quantity basis and any support or renewal details. We keep each one visible so you can forward it internally.

  • Product and edition
  • Deployment boundary
  • Access population
  • Support and renewal

Questions / 05

Oracle licensing, with the variables exposed.

Straight answers on product scope, metric choice, deployment limits and support before an order is placed.

  • 01

    Can I defer Oracle support?

No. Oracle Software Update License and Support must start from the purchase date. You can choose not to renew, but you can't pause and resume.
  • 02

Is SE2 enough for my workload?

SE2 covers most departmental databases up to 16 CPU threads. If you need partitioning, parallel query, or RAC at scale, you need Enterprise Edition — ask and we'll quote that too.
  • 03

What if my server has more than 2 sockets?

SE2 has a hard 2-socket-per-server limit. If your server has more, you need Enterprise Edition or a smaller server. We'll help spec a compliant deployment.
  • 04

Processor or Named User Plus — which should I compare?

Processor licensing usually suits broad, variable access that is hard to count. Named User Plus can suit controlled environments where every user and device is known. Product-specific minimums still apply, so we compare both against the deployment before quoting.
  • 05

What do you need to build an Oracle quote?

Send the Oracle product and edition, deployment hosts, processor and core details, virtualisation boundary, user or device population, and current support or entitlement position. We will confirm what else is needed before treating the quantity as final.

Send the deployment.
We'll model the metric.

Tell us the Oracle product and edition, hosts, processors, virtualisation boundary, number of users or devices and current support. We will check the product and metric before finalising the quantity.
